School Visits
At Hong Kong Academy we value any opportunity to get to know prospective families and have discussions about our mission and values and what we offer as a school. We like to find out as much as possible about what families are looking for in a school for their child and, if possible, hear from the prospective students themselves.

To this end, we focus on providing one to one meetings and a tour of the school. We offer individual school tours, during the school day, on Mondays and Thursday. Families visiting from outside of Hong Kong can also schedule visits outside of these days. To make an appointment, please contact our Admissions Dept. at admissions@hkacademy.edu.hk.

Open Houses
In order to ensure that we are able to meet demand for interest in our Early Childhood Programme, we welcome you to join us at one of our Early Years Open Houses held during September, November, December and January each school year. You will be offered a tour of our beautiful campus and hear from our Primary School Principal and Director of Admissions.

Applications

HKA has a comprehensive online application facility. The process may include input not only from parents but from current teachers and applicants themselves, depending on the grade applying to. Be aware that each application may take around one hour to complete. It is vital that you read our 'Before Applying' page prior to beginning the process.

The 'New Applicants' stage is an inquiry and does not constitute the whole application. Should your child go on to become an HKA student, the information that you enter here will automatically be transferred into our database (Veracross) and will form the basis of your child's data profile.

Important Note
Please ensure that you are applying for the correct grade and school year. Click here to view our international school's grade comparison chart.

If you are an existing HKA family then please apply via the 'Admissions Portal' using your existing Veracross login.

*Our admissions portal is compatible with all recent versions of internet browsers. Please note that for Internet Explorer, version 9 or higher is recommended. Latest versions: Internet Explorer | Google Chrome | Firefox

Criteria

The Admissions Policy at Hong Kong Academy is consistent with our values as a community and diversity based school. We view each student as an individual and evaluate their ability to succeed in the classroom as well as our ability to enable them to reach their full potential. We expect every student and family to be contributing members of our school community.

Requirements
Students must be age appropriate for their grade. The birthday cut-off date for the Primary and Middle / High School is 31st August.
 For example:
  • PK1 class: 3 years old by 31st August of enrolling year (must be fully toilet trained).
  • PK2 class: 4 years old by 31st August of enrolling year (must be fully toilet trained).
  • K class: 5 years old by 31st August of enrolling year.
  • Grade 1 class-6 years old by 31st August of enrolling year (
In exceptional cases, students may be granted a place outside this age requirement if warranted by the student’s past school experience and maturity).
  • There is space availability in their age appropriate class.
  • Students are able to function in the mainstream classroom using English language.
  • Assessments results are appropriate for the space available.
  • Acceptance is not based upon the date of application. HKA has a rolling admissions policy and will accept candidates on the basis of the given requirements all year round.
Priorities
  • Siblings are given priority over “new” applicants.
  • Families who apply for all eligible children are prioritised.
  • Alumni are prioritised (this does not include students who have left HKA to join another school in Hong Kong).
  • Students who bring diversity of nationality, ethnicity, religion, age, family blend, learning styles and needs and gender are prioritised.
  • Families who embrace the school’s philosophy, core values and curriculum are prioritised.
Family Policy
At Hong Kong Academy, we practice a family policy that gives priority for class places to families who will enrol all their age-appropriate children at our school. This policy sustains our commitment to an inclusive classroom with differing abilities as well as our community spirit. HKA will not enrol or re-enrol students to our Primary Section who have Secondary age siblings who are not applying.

Learning Support
Children who need learning support are admitted upon the same requirements as other students. They must be able to be successful in the mainstream classroom with minimal outside support services. We seek a diversity in this as well, be they children who are performing beyond grade level expectations, a child with physical disabilities, etc. Students who are receiving additional support in the school are required to have all age appropriate siblings attend HKA, subject to space.

Scholarships & Financial Aid
Hong Kong Academy is committed to community engagement and service in Hong Kong. As part of this commitment, from its inception the school has charged all students a Scholarship Levy to provide it with the means to develop an ongoing fund to service this need. Hong Kong Academy is now in a position to offer places to students without the means to meet the tuition obligations of the school but wish to pursue a long-term education in a challenging international school environment.

The scholarship and financial aid programme at Hong Kong Academy provides fee abatement's of between 30-90% to successful applicants entering Middle and High School Grades 6-12. Eligibility is based on financial need, as well as personal, academic and creative qualities.

Annual renewal will be based on ongoing financial need and student’s level of engagement at HKA.
